Explaining broken promises

As I noted in an earlier posting, an interesting aspect of the upcoming 2012 Presidential campaign will be how President Obama explains a string of about faces. The latest one involves the use of military trials in Guantanamo. Of course, the dilemma for the Republican nominee is that it will be hard to criticize the President for breaking a promise when he ends up doing something favoured by Republicans. Should be tricky.

By the way, there is a Canadian Federal election happening now. When something interesting happens there, I will let you know.

  1. Interesting to you, that is.
Apparently, you are not interested in Stephen Harper's refusal to address the ethical follies of his government, eg Bev Oda affair, before the election call. Or his refusal to be reasonably questioned by the news media. Or the Conservatives' use of RCMP officers to eject non-Conservatives from meetings.
If Michael Ignatieff or Jack Layton does anything comparable, maybe that will catch your attention.

  2. Hi Ron:

No, Ron; if they do anything "comparable", it is unlikely to catch my attention. But I would be happy to hear about it from you, if you are so inclined.

  3. Ron must be following Canadian politics again [*snore*]. Wake me up when the dollar's back at 62 cents, or when tax freedom day is moved back to July, or when Quebec is teetering towards separation, and maybe I'll start thinking again that the peacable kingdom has real governance problems might justify this otherwise pointless bi-annual charade.
