If you have not yet heard of Susan Boyle, watch this video. I was blown away, and you will be too.

  1. Regretfully, I was not blown away. Often when someone defies expectations, they are then regarded as if they possess skills far beyond those which they actually possess. In this case, a woman who is not attractive sings with a level of rhythmic and harmonic accuracy that is not atypical for a singer, and then the world puts her on a pedestal.
Perhaps Pavarotti should have stayed at home until he was older, worked a middle-of-the-road job, and waited for his chance on a TV contest. Some cellphone salesman named Paul Potts did just that, and now ten times more people have watched his version of Nessun Dorma than Pavarotti's. Weird.

  2. Alas, Pavarotti -- an underpromoted star!
